Rich in Minneapolis History

Posted by

Lindskoog Florist has been a traditional retail florist in Minneapolis for 110 years and we continue to share important moments with our clients.

Carl Lindskoog, the founder of Lindskoog Florist, moved to the United States from Sweden in 1902 with two of his brothers. Operating their own business came very natural to the family, as one of his brothers opened up a concrete company; Carl opened Lindskoog Florist in 1905. The store was first located at 1400 E. Franklin Avenue N Minneapolis. With such a strong family connection, two of Carl’s children took over the shop in 1946. Donald and Mildred Lindskoog ran the shop together until Mildred passed away in 1963.

Donald continued to grow the business and eventually passed it on to his son Richard (one of our current owners) in 1988.

Lindskoog Florist is currently owned by Richard Lindskoog and John Moorhead. The two met in the Army reserve in 1968. They were both in a Hospital unit until 1974. John was a Dental Technician and Richard was an OR Tech (scrub nurse). They became close friends over the years and when John retired from General Mills in 1994, he came to help at the store on Valentine’s Day and never left!

The business has grown to over 15 employees working in our 3000+ square foot located on one of the busiest downtown Minneapolis skyways. Our buying power allows us to purchase direct from growers and we observe all of the latest care and handling techniques to guarantee your flowers and plants are the freshest available anywhere.

Roses are our leading type of flower sold. But we now carry many more varieties than we did years ago. We import from South America, Hawaii, Thailand and even from Holland and Europe.

Our favorite part of running a floral business is to see or hear that they have made someone happy or brought a smile to a customer's face. The flowers can help express emotions for our customers and we take that very seriously.

We are very proud of our 100 plus year history of satisfying customers and look forward to the next century of “Expressing Emotions with Flowers".
